Housing Plan

The Foundation will create housing opportunities for young people with autism wishing to live outside their parent's homes. These homes will provide the knowledge for aging parents that their children with autism will be living happily and safely beyond their own lives. The Foundation will continue the philosophy of integration these young people have known in the past. To that end, an integrated home will be established which will accommodate these young people with autism. The home will also house a number of non-disabled peers. The home will create opportunities for learning self-help skills, create opportunities for work, and opportunities to further develop appropriate social skills with their peers without autism. The presence of non-disabled peers will provide opportunities for appropriate social skill development in a natural setting. The non-disabled peers receive a reduced rate of board for any volunteer hours they wish to provide. As our young people with autism become seniors the home will provide opportunities for non-disabled seniors to live. At all times, respect must be give to the young person with autism in choosing their house mates.

The board is currently working on the first house for these young people and is looking for support for this project. $900,000.00 must be raised to make this project a reality. The Foundation currently has land in Charlottetown promised by the Provincial Government of Prince Edward Island, to build our first home.
